Your Face

Your Face
Chapter 11
By Crystal

**
We sailed on together
We drifted apart
And here you are by my side
**

Nick and Georgia walked together, hand in hand, through the field of sunflowers. Georgia stopped and turned to look at Nick.

"Go on without me," she said softly.

"Go on without you?" he questioned.

"Yes. There are so many people that need you, that want you to be where you belong."

"But, you?"

"I have no one. No one is waiting at my bedside praying for me to come back. My home is merely a constant reminder of my loneliness and my pain. But you… Your mom has barely left your side. Your whole family comes and visits you day after day and I hear their prayers Nick. I hear the desperation and pleading in their sobbing voices when they ask God to bring you home to them. But at my bedside, the only sounds I hear are the beeping of the machines and monitors that grasp onto whatever life they think they can save."

"Stop talking like this! You are wanted! You're needed too," he cried.

**
"And look at the brain wave screens. They're both identical and way off the chart. Something is happening!" Doctor Green could hardly contain his disbelief and excitement. He ran out of the room and returned with Doctor Lynn. The rest of the Carter family gathered in the room, trying to get any information as to what was going on.

**

"I don't want to leave you here!" he screamed in pain.

"I'm sorry Nick!" she cried. "But maybe if you go back there will be some hope for me. You have a whole family and a whole life waiting ahead of you and all you have to do is walk towards it! Just look at it Nick! All the happy times you're going to live through. All the memories you'll be making. Don't look back here at me. In time you won't even remember me or the time we've spent here together."

"I don't believe you! I refuse to believe that there is a future out there without you Georgia! I can't possibly go back without you! I need you by my side!"

"Then go now and pray Nick. Go and be the only person mourning at my bedside. Maybe then God will see that someone does love me and will send me back. But unless you do that then I have no place there."

**

"Nick! Sweetie can you hear me?" Jane asked as she watched Nick's eyes flutter. His heart rate was increasing and the brain waves were bewildering. "Come on Nick. Come back to us son."

**

Nick embraced Georgia tightly. He didn't want to think about the pain of losing her. He would miss her greatly. As she slipped her arms around him he cried. All he could do was cry. No farewell had ever been this painful.

"I'll pray for you. I promise I will. I won't stop praying until you back with me," he cried.

"Then go Nick. Go back now." Georgia placed her hands on his face and kissed him sweetly. After a moment of pure bliss the splendor of the yellow sunflowers disappeared and was replaced with gray. The skies cried profusely on her. She stared out ahead into nothingness and sobbed.

**

Paul Green watched as the brain wave monitors simultaneously calmed down into a normal state of sleep. He and Doctor Lynn exchanged baffled glances.

Slowly, Nick's eyes opened to the world he had been isolated from for days. With a quiet hesitation he glanced around to take in his surroundings. He saw his mom and the smile on her face flooded back all his memories of his life.

"Mom?" he whispered hoarsely.

"Yeah baby. I'm here Nick."

"What's going on?" His eyes scanned her face. He felt confused and scared.

"Honey you're in the hospital. A few days ago you were in a car accident. Do you remember?"

Nick shut his eyes, as if the truth were blinding him, hurting his eyes. "I remember driving out to see someone and the car in front of me… A truck on the other side fell over and rocks fell out everywhere…"

"It's okay sweetie."

"What happened to the other car?"

"The driver of the other car is here in the hospital. It was a young girl."

"A young girl?"

Doctor Green stepped into Nick's view. "Hi there Nick. I'm Doctor Green. I've been looking out for you ever since you got here. You gave us all quite a scare. But at the same time a lot of interesting things have been going on."

"Like what?" he asked, wrinkling his brow.

"Do you know Georgia Reynolds, Nick?"

"Who?"
